Wyoming had the lowest number of specialist physicians in 2012, according to State Health Facts, a project of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.

There were a total of 437,639 specialist physicians in the United States in 2012.

 

The 10 states with the lowest numbers of specialist physicians, according to the report, were:

 

1. Wyoming — 518
2. North Dakota — 775
3. Alaska — 782
4. South Dakota — 912
5. Vermont — 1,050
6. Montana — 1,062
7. Idaho — 1,332
8. Delaware — 1,390    
9. Hawaii — 1,734
10. New Hampshire — 1,929
