1. Companies are constantly devising new technologies such as Medtronic's new Minimed Connect, which allows for the remote monitoring of data on the insulin pump and sensor to be readily shared over the Internet.
2. Physicians face greater liability if they have constant access to a patient outside of their office, which may result in providers hesitating before adopting the devices.
3. Time is a valued commodity, and many physicians do not have enough time in the day to remotely monitor their patients. While insurance companies potentially could set up reimbursement policies for remote monitoring, there is no guarantee for reimbursement.
4. Despite these challenges, the innovations in technology provide a wealth of benefits for patients. If patients demand the technology, physicians will find a way to implement technology into their practices.
