The American Society of Anesthesiologists and Premier provided the results on the first replication of the Perioperative Surgical Home learning collaborative, according to Medical Xpress.
Here are five insights:
1. From July 2014 to November 2015, 44 leading healthcare organizations participated in the collaborative to develop, pilot and evaluate the PSH model.
2. The PSH model is a patient-centered, team-based model of coordinate care. The model guides patients through the entire surgical experience.
3. Of the participating organizations, 73 percent launched one or more PSH pilot program.
4. Most organizations reported their PSH initiatives proved successful in improving clinical quality, controlling costs and/or enhancing the patient experience.
5. "The PSH, spearheaded by the ASA, was an opportunity simply to give better care to our patients, while at the same time achieving the goals of the triple aim, better health care, a better quality patient experience and lower costs," said Daniel J. Cole, MD, ASA president. "The first collaborative results are satisfying to see and we can only hope to achieve even greater success with the next learning collaborative iteration."
