1. HHS' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response announced new funding opportunities for a healthcare Information Sharing and Analysis Organization.
2. The funding totals $250,000 and may be renewable for five years.
3. The healthcare and public health sector ISAO will share cybersecurity information across the industry and assist health systems in pinpointing possible threats.
4. Specifically, the ISAO will:
- Share cybersecurity information impacting healthcare
- Heighten cybersecurity awareness with educational opportunities for the healthcare and public health sectors
- Assist stakeholders in acting effectively with the cybersecurity threat information
5. HHS wants the ISAO to establish an exchange platform for the healthcare industry, public health sector, stakeholders, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the FBI to share information about cybersecurity threats.
"Establishing robust threat information sharing infrastructure and capability within the healthcare and public health sector is crucial to the privacy and security of health information, which is foundational to the digital health system," said Karen DeSalvo, MD, national coordinator for health IT.
