Mayfield Brain & Spine unveils Mayfield Surgical Innovation Center — 5 takeaways

Cincinnati-based Mayfield Brain & Spine has opened national neurosurgery training site, Mayfield Surgical Innovation Center.

1. The state-of-the-art Mayfield Surgical Innovation Center offers spine and cranial surgery technology and minimally invasive procedures.

 

2. Mayfield neurosurgeon and chairman of the board of the Mayfield Spine Surgery Center, William Tobler, MD, believes the new facility will host 30 to 40 training sessions every year for residents, fellows and established neurosurgeons.

 

3. The facility is made up of six training stations and a full laboratory. Its construction was funded with more than $500,000 from the Mayfield Education & Research Foundation.

 

4. Sonia Lipp will oversee the Innovation Center's clinical and pre-clinical educational programs, technologies and material acquisitions and the development of partnerships with device manufacturers, academic centers and physician practices. Previously, Ms. Lipp served as laboratory manager and senior research assistant at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, followed by her role as an associate scientist at Somerville, N.J.-based Ethicon Endo-Surgery.

 

5. Over 12,000 surgeries and 21,000 procedures have been performed at the Mayfield Spine Surgery Center since it opened 10 years ago.
