Nuance Communications and Epic partnered to create computer-assisted physician documentation capabilities within Epic's system.
Here are five key notes:
1. As a result of the partnership, the Epic NoteReader CDI leverages artificial intelligence from the Nuance CAPD technology for real-time clinical documentation improvement feedback at the point of care.
2. The technology has the ability to improve severity-adjusted quality scores as well as capture appropriate reimbursement and risk factors associated with patient care and management.
3. Nuance's CAPD technology is designed to identify clinical indicators in the patient's medical record and notify physicians about missing important information in real time. The Epic NoteReader CDI module can work within the solution to describe the quality of care provided given the patient's acuity to ultimately reduce retrospective coding queries.
4. TriHealth's clinical documentation systems manager reported using Nuance's solution and realized a 14 percent improvement in case mix index and $12.8 million increase in appropriate reimbursements during the first year of use. The health system also reported 98 percent physician response rate to queries after implementing the technology.
5. Nuance has partnered with Epic in the past on development projects.
