The American Alliance of Orthopaedic Executives awarded several members who demonstrated excellence in the orthopedic practice industry during the AAOE 2018 Annual Conference in Orlando, Fla., April 14 to 17.
Here are the awards and winners.
1. Innovation Award: Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Ortho NorthEast created an interactive single display combining the multiple rules and information screens needed to process patients in a timely fashion.
2. Practice Executive of the Year: In 2017, John Polikandriotis, PhD, CEO of Vail-Summit (Colo.) Orthopaedics implemented a new EMR, restructured the physician compensation plan along with several departments and developed employee engagement programs.
3. Practice Professional of the Year: In 2017, Campbell Clinic Orthopaedics in Germantown, Tenn., had its best financial year in its 108-year history under the leadership of CFO Daniel Shumate.
4. Rising Star: Olivia Wolf, an administrator at Anchorage-based Alaska Hand Elbow Shoulder.
5. Volunteer of the Year: Jim Kidd, CEO of St. Peters, Mo.-based Advanced Bone & Joint, was recognized for his volunteer roles supporting the AAOE.
6. Collaborate Champion: Joseph Mathews, DPT, practice administrator at Advanced Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Houston, was recognized for helping peers when AAOE transitioned from a listserv to the new Collaborate online community platform in August 2017.
7. Lifetime Achievement Award: Patricia Brewster, CEO Emeritus of OrthoAtlanta and Atlanta-based healthcare management company IntraHealth Group.
8. President's Award: Debra Mitchell, RN, MSN, administrator at Children's Orthopaedic & Scoliosis Surgery Associates in Tampa and St. Petersburg, Fla., was recognized for her support to the AAOE president.
