Practice Management

Anthony Romeo, MD, joined Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute as chief of orthopedics for the practice's New York branch.

"The addition of Dr. Romeo is a key pillar to our practice growth in New York," said Rothman Institute President Alexander Vaccaro, MD, PhD. "His international reputation as a clinician, his dedication to academic excellence and his unparalleled leadership will ensure Rothman Institute keeps our same values in our expansion markets of which our practice was built upon."

Here are five things to know:

1. Prior to joining Rothman Institute, Dr. Romeo served as an orthopedic surgeon at Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center and section head of shoulder and elbow surgery at Rush. He was also the program director of the shoulder and elbow fellowship and served as co-team physician for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls.

2. In his new role, Dr. Romeo will lead Rothman's expansion into New York, which began last year. He is actively seeing patients at Rothman's Marlton, N.J., location and plans to have offices in New York City and Westchester County this fall.

3. Throughout his career, Dr. Romeo has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed journal articles and 35 text book chapters. He also served a term as president of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons.

4. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Romeo has experience designating and developing innovative shoulder replacement systems treating arthritis.

5. Rothman Institute currently has 29 locations where surgeons practice evidence-based medicine to treat musculoskeletal patients.

"This is a very exciting time in my career. My wife and I are excited to join the Rothman Institute family and I'm personally energized for the opportunity that awaits our practice expansion to New York both in the city and Westchester County," said Dr. Romeo. "There are plenty of opportunities ahead and I look forward to each and every one. The environment that Rothman Institute is creating for both physicians and staff is truly special and I'm honored to be a part of it."
