Aspen Valley (Colo.) Hospital's OrthoAspen specialist group is entering into a co-management partnership with New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery, The Aspen Times reported.

1. The term of the initial contract is for five years, and will become official following the finalization of the term sheet and due-diligence period.
2. Hospital for Special Surgery will provide Aspen Valley Hospital services such as professional education, medical staff development, research and other benefits.
3. Co-management partnership discussions with the Hospital for Special Surgery have been ongoing for nearly a year.
4. Tom Pevny, MD, an OrthoAspen physician said having Hospital for Special Surgery as a partner will give OrthoAspen's physicians better access to research and development and enhance its reputation.
5. OrthoAspen will keep its name.
6. Hospital for Special Surgery was founded in 1863, making it the oldest musculoskeletal medicine facility in the U.S.
