The Fairlawn (Ohio) Planning Commission gave first approval to a backup site plan for Akron, Ohio-based Crystal Clinic's orthopedic center proposal, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
What you should know:
1. Crystal Clinic now has one approved site plan and one semi-approved site plan. The clinic broke ground on its first approved plan on Embassy Parkway in Fairlawn, but residents of neighboring Bath Township objected to the Embassy Parkway site and are attempting to stop construction.
2. Commissioners still have to give their final approval on the second site plan, which is in a business park. Crystal Clinic administrators view the backup site as a "plan B."
3. The proposed clinic will feature 12 operating rooms and 60 inpatient beds. Crystal Clinic administrators anticipate opening the clinic in 2021.
4. Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center president and CEO Ronald Suntken said at an Aug. 8 meeting, "We're still proceeding on our plan A site, but this is our backup plan, so we're trying to put everything in order that if we need to go this direction, then we'll be prepared to do that."
