Penn State appoints Dr. Patrick Drew to neuroscience leadership role

State College, Pa.-based Penn State University named Patrick Drew, PhD, as associate director of the institute of the neurosciences, according to the university's website.

Three things to know:

1. Dr. Drew has been involved in Penn State's neuroscience department since 2010 and succeeds David Vandenbergh, PhD, in the role.

2. He will be responsible for promoting neuroscience research and education at the university's Hershey and University Park campuses.

3. Dr. Drew's research focuses on how the brain controls the network of blood vessels that supply neurons with oxygen and nutrients. Currently, he is investigating how air pollution may be linked to neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
