Here are four hospitals recently expanding spine programs and services:

In July, Mary Rutan Hospital Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in Bellefontaine, Ohio, teamed with Lima-based Orthopaedic Institute of Ohio to expand spine and orthopedic services. The partnership brings a spine surgeon, trauma surgeon and hand specialist to the hospital's two-surgeon orthopedic team.

The Orthopedic & Spine Tower at Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital reached its structural completion in July. Spanning 375,000 square feet, the $250 million center will feature 24 operating rooms for spine and orthopedic surgery.

Midland (Texas) Memorial Hospital has received initial certification for its spine surgery program in July, with Srikanth Deme, MD, appointed medical director. As the spine program is the hospital's third orthopedic program to be accredited by DNV, Midland Memorial Hospital and the Total Joint and Spine Center has been designated as an Orthopaedic Center of Excellence.

Manhattan (Kan.) Surgical Hospital is offering spine and neurosurgery thanks to a June partnership with Topeka, Kan.-based Stormont Vail Health. Matthew Wills, MD, and Michael Smith, MD, joined the hospital and are performing surgeries at its Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Center.
