Cape Fear Valley Health in Fayetteville, N.C., is building a $30 million center to expand its residency program and house its neuroscience institute, The Fayetteville Observer reported Feb. 15.

The Neuroscience Institute, which will feature 5,000 square feet of simulation labs and a fully simulated operating room, will integrate spine and brain services into one location.

The medical pavilion is expected to boost the number of residents at Cape Fear Valley to 300. Currently, it has 133 residents, which is close to capacity, according to the report.

Two spinal neurosurgeons practice at Cape Fear Valley Neurosurgery, Charles Haworth, MD, and Melissa Stamates, MD, according to its website.

The Neuroscience Institute will improve training and patient safety and allow the health system to "attract other top-notch physicians," Dr. Haworth told the Observer.
