Lexington, Ky.-based Bluegrass Orthopedics recently received fraudulent unemployment claims, CBS affiliate WKYT reported April 12.
The practice received unemployment claim notices for three employees, but no one was laid off. Two women working at Bluegrass orthopedics told the station they received fraudulent unemployment checks despite being employed.
"It's really scary," one woman told the station. "I’m afraid I’m going to be held liable because it seems like people who need unemployment can’t get it, and then they’re handing out these checks to all these fraudulent claims."
The women said they weren't able to reach anyone at an unemployment office to report the claims. One of the women said the governor's office told her to file a police report and contact the IRS.
