The Joint Commission has awarded Marcus Neuroscience Institute at Boca Raton (Fla.) Regional Hospital with its Gold Seal of Approval for spine surgery, The Boca Raton Tribune reported April 29.
Marcus Neuroscience Institute is the 101st spine program to receive the distinction, which reflects commitment to the highest standards of excellence and safety in patient care.
"Earning this certification involved a rigorous process that required collaboration between many disciplines and our spine surgery team," Frank Vrionis, MD, PhD, director of the Institute, told the publication. "We have been working tirelessly to make sure we meet the very stringent requirements."
Central to the institute is the Phillip & Peggy DeZwirek Center for Spinal Disorders & Back Pain, which performs more than 1,500 spine cases a year. The multidisciplinary team includes specialists in neuro and orthopedic spine surgery, pain management and physical therapy.
To earn the certification, the institute had to comply with national care standards, use evidence-based guidelines and have an organized approach to quality and performance improvement.
