A $56 million, three-story tower is planned for Brandon (Fla.) Regional Hospital to meet increasing demand for spine and orthopedic patients, among others, Tampa Bay Business Journal reports.
The second floor of the tower will be dedicated to rehabilitation, with the third floor housing a surgical unit. A pediatric emergency department currently exists on the first floor of what will become the tower.
Each floor of the tower would have 24 beds, with the tower potentially expanding to five stories, according to the report.
"There isn't a rehab center in eastern Hillsborough County for our patients," Bland Eng, the hospital's CEO, told the Journal May 11. "Our population is growing, and more people have to go travel to Tampa for that type of care."
Construction of the tower is projected to begin in July and be completed by 2023.
