Hoag Orthopedic Institute appoints Dr. Jeremy Smith division chief of spine surgery

Jeremy Smith, MD, was named Hoag Orthopedic Institute's division chief of surgical spine, the Irvine, Calif.-based practice announced May 20.

He will identify program elements and resources needed to develop, implement and maintain the surgical spine program. He aims to improve public education and outreach for spine surgery. He also plans to do outreach and education for Hoag's joint replacement program.

"I am excited to work with Hoag Orthopedic Institute to continue to innovate the field of spine surgery," Dr. Smith said. "I’m honored to lead this program, knowing we will be able to provide the highest quality of care to our patients."

Dr. Smith received his medical degree from the New York Medical College in Valhalla where he received Alpha Omega Alpha honors and graduated top of his class. He completed his residency at the University of California Irvine School of Medicine, where he served as chief resident. He also completed spine fellowship training at Philadephia-based Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
