Seven orthopedic surgeons from Orthopedic Associates of Flower Mound (Texas) plan to open the first OrthoLazer facility in the state, The Cross Timbers Gazette reports.
OrthoLazer uses the MLS M8 Robotic Laser to treat acute and chronic orthopedic conditions such as musculoskeletal injuries, arthritis and neuropathy.
The technology is exclusive to OrthoLazer centers and is FDA-cleared to treat pain and inflammation associated with various soft tissue injuries, nerve pain, arthritis and surgery, according to the report.
"The laser works by emitting specific wavelengths of light energy into damaged cells, which stimulates increased intracellular activity, reduces pain and inflammation and accelerates recovery time," said J. David Evanich, MD, one of the surgeons opening the center.
The other surgeons are Jeffery Cantrell, MD, Kent Dickson MD, John McElroy, MD, Aaron Schrayer, MD, Ian Wilkofsky, MD and Michael Willenborg, MD.
OrthoLazer currently has nine locations in the U.S., with plans to open 16 more, according to its website.
OrthoLazer Flower Mound will be developed in partnership with Donald Driver, a retired NFL player who won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers.
