The Joint Commission has awarded its "gold seal of approval" for advanced certification of total hip and knee replacement to the Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, Conn.
The institute, which opened in February, met the commission's joint replacement standards, which ranged from orthopedic consultations to preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative care.
The hospital is one of four in Connecticut to earn the certification, according to a July 22 news release. The Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute's first location at MidState Medical Center in Meriden also has the designation.
Last year, 95 percent of patients at Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute were discharged home after surgery with an average length of stay of 1.11 days and an infection rate of 0.72 percent, compared to the national average of 1 percent, the institute said.
"Achieving this recognition just months after opening validates our commitment to providing the highest quality, safest, most advanced care to our total hip and total knee replacement patients," said Hartford HealthCare Fairfield Region President William Jennings.
