EmergeOrtho (Durham, N.C.)
Frank Aluisio, MD. Physician president
Dr. Aluisio is a joint replacement specialist and has performed the most hip and knee replacements in Greensboro, N.C., since 1988. As physician president, he brings the EmergeOrtho regions together to be recognized as leading practice in the U.S. Along with the clinical work, he's a member of the Greensboro Sports Council.
OrthoCarolina (Charlotte, N.C.)
Bruce Cohen, MD. CEO
Dr. Cohen was named CEO of OrthoCarolina in 2016 and replaced former CEO Dan Murrey, MD. He is a foot and ankle specialist and a past board member for American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society. Before taking the helm at OrthoCarolina, he was the practice's vice chair of the board of directors and chair of the operations committee.
Rothman Orthopaedics (Philadelphia)
Alex Vaccaro, MD, PhD. President
Dr. Vaccaro has served as president of Rothman since 2014. He has earned the Leon Wiltse award given for excellence in leadership and clinical research for spine care by the North American Spine Society and is the past president of the Cervical Spine Research Society, the American Spinal Injury Association and the Association for Collaborative Spine Research. He is a recognized leader in spine care and research, with more than 900 peer-reviewed and 200 non-peer-reviewed publications.
Illinois Bone and Joint Institute (Des Plaines)
André Blom. CEO
Mr. Blom has worked with IBJI since 2004, when he started as a physical therapist. He received his undergraduate degree from Grey College in South Africa. Mr. Blom told Becker's that his goals for 2022 are to stabilize and focus on the strategic investments the practice made in recent years.
OrthoIndy (Indianapolis)
Ed Hellman, MD. President
Dr. Hellman joined OrthoIndy in 1999 and specializes in hip and knee replacements. He has been in clinical practice for more than 30 years and told Becker's he has his eyes on growing the group's outpatient strategy. Along with his leadership work, he has written multiple articles about hip and knee arthroplasty.
OrthoLoneStar (Houston)
J. Bryan Williamson, MD. Medical director
Dr. Williamson is a spine surgeon with Houston-based Fondren Orthopedic Group, a division of OrthoLoneStar. As medical director of OrthoLoneStar, he oversees more than 150 physicians across 40 locations.
Mayfield Brain & Spine (Cincinnati)
Mark Vorherr. CEO
Mr. Vorherr became CEO of Mayfield Brain & Spine in July 2021. He replaced former CEO Mark Farrington. Mr. Vorherr previously led health systems in South Carolina and Missouri and was vice president at Mercy Health-Cincinnati from 2009 to 2013.
The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics (Bethesda, Md.)
Nicholas Grosso, MD. President
Dr. Grosso is a sports medicine and total joint replacement specialist. He is also president of the Maryland Patient Care and Access Coalition and a member of the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Maryland Orthopaedic Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He received multiple awards and recognitions for his work, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Davis Award, Kuwaiti Liberation Medal and National Service Defense Medal.
