Orthopedic surgeon James R. Andrews, MD, co-founded Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, American Sports Medicine Institute and Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Fla. Dr. Andrews is currently the medical director and orthopedic surgeon for Auburn University Intercollegiate Athletics and senior orthopedic consultant at the University of Alabama.

He consults for the Washington Redskins, serves as the orthopedic medical director for the Tampa Bay Rays, and serves as the medical director of the Ladies Professional Golf Association.

 

Specializing in knee, shoulder and elbow injury prevention and treatment, Dr. Andrews has taught more than 300 orthopedic/sports medicine fellows.

 

He is a member of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Andrews served as the president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

 

Dr. Andrews received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, and completed a residency at Tulane Medical School in New Orleans. He then did a fellowship at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville and University of Lyon in France.
