Here are 12 orthopedic surgeons making the news this week.

National Academy of Inventors named G. Douglas Letson, MD, a fellow. Dr. Letson is the executive vice president of clinical affairs, physician-in-chief and chair of education at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer & Research Institute in Tampa, Fla.

 

Houston surgeon K. Mathew Warnock, MD, is performing a new procedure for patients with irreparable rotator cuff tears. The procedure, Superior Capsular Reconstruction, restores stability and function to shoulder joints with irreparable tears of the rotator cuff tendon.

 

Virginia Cancer Specialists welcomed Felasfa M. Wodajo, MD, to its team. Dr. Wodajo is a musculoskeletal tumor surgeon.

 

Richard M. Marks, MD, led an effort to provides homeless men shoes, socks and, in some cases, a free foot exam. Dr. Marks started the local shoe drive in 2007, and the drive serves 200 men each year in Milwaukee.

 

Thomas J. Graham, MD, is joining Orlando, Fla-based Lake Nona Medical City, a medical research and treatment facility. Dr. Graham is a hand surgeon and has served as chief of innovation at Cleveland Clinic Innovations since 2010.

 

The Notre Dame Club of Sarasota (Fla.) awarded Christopher R. Sforzo, MD, for volunteering with the university's Summer Service Learning Program. Dr. Sforzo has volunteered with the program for years, helping senior pre-med students better understand the challenges associated with becoming a physician.

 

Melbourne, Fla.-based BioCellular Therapies is offering regenerative medicine to Brevard county. Brian Dowdell, MD, and John Hermansdorfer, MD, established BioCellular Therapies to advance regenerative medicine use.

 

Kevin Darr, MD, of Covington (La.) Orthopedics, is conducting a study on cell therapy using lipogems to help patients with arthritis. LIPOGEMS Cell Therapy involves injecting a patient's fat into the affected joint.

 

Robert Easton, MD, is planning to develop an Operation Walk chapter in Louisiana to provide residents with free orthopedic services. Dr. Easton has performed hip and knee replacements in South America through Operation Walk for the last four years.

 

Brian Rowan, MD, joined Shenandoah (Iowa) Medical Center. Dr. Rowan earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati.

 

John Larkin, MD, performed the first outpatient total joint replacement in northern Kentucky. Dr. Larkin practices at Commonwealth Orthopaedic Centers.
