Orthopedic surgeon to know: Dr. Ilya Voloshin of University of Rochester Medical Center

Ilya Voloshin, MD, chief of the Shoulder and Elbow Division and a professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center. He is a team physician for the Rochester Knighthawks and Rochester Rattlers, professional lacrosse teams. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Dr. Voloshin has a professional interest in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow and knee, as well as reconstruction and replacement surgery of the shoulder and elbow. His research interests center on the surgical treatment of distal third clavicle fractures, and the repair and reconstruction of superior labral tears in a setting of biceps pathology and rotator cuff disease. His work has been published in leading journals, such as The American Journal of Sports Medicine and Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma. He was a Shoulder Arthroscopy Traveling Fellow with the Arthroscopy Association of North American in 2006.

 

Dr. Voloshin earned his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, N.H., and completed his orthopedics residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He completed fellowship training in shoulder and elbow reconstruction and sports medicine at Columbia University in New York as well as additional focused elbow training at Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic.
