Orthopedic surgeon Dr. R.J. Black Schultz dies at 83

Orthopedic surgeon R.J. Black Schultz, MD, died at 83 years old in Pueblo, Colo., according to The Pueblo Chieftain. Dr. Schultz practiced at an orthopedic clinic in Pueblo until 1997.

When Dr. Schultz served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1995, he led a surgical team in Vietnam. A retired colonel, he earned the Bronze Star and Air Medal for his service. Dr. Schultz helped create the Pueblo Historical Aviation Society.

 

He served as the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Air Force Academy orthopedic surgery chief and as the college's football team physician.

 

Dr. Schultz earned his medical degree from Chicago-based Northwestern University.
