Arthritis Foundation honors husband-wife orthopedic care team: 4 things to know

A husband-wife orthopedic care team was recently honored at the Arthritis Foundation Central Coast's Taste of the Town fundraiser, according to the Santa Maria Times. The Arthritis Foundation supports the prevention and cure of arthritis and related diseases.

Here are three things to know about the honorees, William Gallivan Jr., MD, and Karen Gallivan, RN:

 

1. Dr. Gallivan and Ms. Gallivan practice at Orthopedic Institute of Santa Barbara. The institute, owned by Dr. Gallivan, has offices in Santa Barbara and Solvang, Calif.

 

2. Dr. Gallivan specializes in arthritis treatment, joint preservation surgery and robotic-assisted procedures. He earned his medical degree at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where he also completed his residency.

 

3. Ms. Gallivan earned her nursing degree at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

 

4. The couple has volunteered with the Arthritis Foundation since 2011. In 2013, they served as co-chairs of the Santa Barbara Walk to Cure Arthritis, which raised more than $100,000.
