Novato (Calif.) Community Hospital earned the Joint Commission's advanced certification for total hip and knee replacement, according to the North Bay Business Journal.
In 2015, the hospital convened anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, physical therapists and others involved with the procedures in order to reach consensus on how to best manage postsurgical pain, get patients mobile after surgery and support patients at home.
In 2017, 91 percent of total joint replacement patients were discharged directly to their homes instead of a skilled nursing facility, a 29 percent improvement since 2013.
