Chief of Adult Reconstructive Surgery at Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center Craig Della Valle, MD, was named the 28th president of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
Here are five things to know:
1. Dr. Della Valle's practice focuses on primary and revision total knee replacements. In addition to his clinical practice, he serves as the Aaron G. Rosenberg Endowed Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Rush.
2. Throughout his career, Dr. Della Valle has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications on topics such as partial and total knee and hip replacements.
3. Dr. Della Valle completed his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia and his fellowship at Rush University Medical Center. He also completed fellowship training in orthopedic research at the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City.
4. Since entering practice, Dr. Della Valle has performed more than 9,000 hip and knee replacements, and he travels extensively to share his research.
5. Dr. Della Valle previously served as the chair for the education and communications council, committee on committees and bylaws, education committee, nominating committee and patient education committee for AAHKS. He is currently a member at large on the AAHKS board of directors.
