Total knee replacement surgeries are projected to increase 673 percent to 3.5 million procedures annually by 2030, according to A Nation in Motion, an educational initiative by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Here are four statistics:
1. Nearly 50 percent of U.S. adults will develop knee osteoarthritis in at least one knee.
2. More than 90 percent of patients who undergo knee replacement surgery experience a significant reduction in knee pain.
3. More than half — 63 percent — of knee replacement surgeries were performed on female patients in 2008.
