Orthopedic surgeon Levi Harrison, MD, has seen an increase in patients with a form of carpal tunnel that he refers to as "selfie wrist," according to ABC 7 News Los Angeles.
Here are four details:
1. People who take photos of themselves on their phone, otherwise known as selfies, may experience pain if they bend their wrist too much while taking pictures, Dr. Harrison told ABC 7 News.
2. Individuals who constantly hyperflex their wrist inwards while taking selfies can inflame the nerves in their wrist, which can lead to the form of carpal tunnel.
3. Dr. Harrison has a private orthopedic practice in Glendale, Calif. His specialties include hand and wrist trauma as well as fracture care.
4. After earning his medical degree from UC Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento, Calif., Dr. Harrison completed his fellowship training at Indianapolis-based Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center.
