Orthopedic surgeon becomes registered piano technician: 4 notes

Retired orthopedic surgeon Arthur Heller, MD, became a registered piano technician, The Villager reports.

Four notes:

1. Dr. Heller became one of fewer than 2,000 people worldwide to complete three examinations covering all aspects of piano technology. The process comprises a written test, technical examination and standardized tuning examination.

2. A board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Heller retired after 45 years of practicing orthopedic surgery at Englewood, Colo.-based Swedish Medical Center, Denver-based Porter Adventist Hospital and Littleton (Colo.) Adventist Hospital.

3. Dr. Heller received his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in New York City. He completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center in Denver.

4. He is now a member of the Denver chapter of the Piano Technicians Guild and is trained in violin and trumpet.
