Orthopedic surgeon Scott Croft, MD, joined Peter Seipel, MD, in the orthopedic department at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center in Globe, Ariz., adding new procedures to the hospital's services. The hospital now offers reverse total shoulder replacements, partial knee replacements, cartilage transplants and anterior total hip replacements.
Orthopedic surgeon Joshua Jacobs, MD, was elected vice president of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery for a one-year term. Dr. Jacobs serves as William A. Hark, MD and Susanne G. Swift professor and chair of orthopedic surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery added orthopedic surgeon Benedict Nwachukwu, MD, to its staff on Sept. 9. Dr. Nwachukwu specializes in hip, knee and shoulder surgery. NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Hudson Valley welcomed orthopedic surgeon Thomas Hickernell, MD, to its group. Dr. Hickernell specializes in treating orthopedic and degenerative conditions of the hip and knee and is an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.
Foot and ankle orthopedic surgeon Judith Baumhauer, MD, received the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation's 2019 Women's Leadership Award for her work as an educator, mentor, clinician, researcher and humanitarian. She currently serves as a professor, fellowship director, academic affairs chair and PROMIS medical director at the University of Rochester (N.Y.) School of Medicine.
Jeff Traub, MD, was appointed to the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission on Oct. 8. Dr. Traub practices at Atlanta Bone and Joint Specialists and is chief of orthopedics at Emory Decatur Medical Center in North Decatur, Ga.
Lumberton, N.C.-based Southeastern Health's Southeastern Orthopedics added John Arnold, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. Arnold is an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon specializing in joint replacements and treatment of the hip, knee and shoulder.
Orthopedic surgeon Brett Gemlick, MD, age 50, died at his home on Oct. 9. Dr. Gemlick joined Ortho NorthEast in Fort Wayne, Ind., as part of its SportONE team in 2000. He specialized in sports medicine, focusing on complex rotator cuff and shoulder reconstruction.
Sports medicine specialist Leslie Ellis, MD, and orthopedic surgeon Alex Rothfeld, MD, joined Merrick, N.Y.-based Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group, an affiliate of New York City-based Northwell Health in early October. Drs. Ellis and Rothfeld will see patients at the Smithtown and Woodbury offices in New York.
