Here are 10 orthopedic surgeons making headlines this week.

The board of trustees at Dance/USA, the national service organization for the professional dance field, nominated Nancy Kadel, MD, to serve for a three-year term. Dr. Kadel is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine as well as foot and ankle reconstruction at Seattle Spine and Sports Medicine.

Former NFL player Damien Richardson, MD, recently joined the medical staff of Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, Calif. Dr. Richardson spoke to Becker's Spine Review about his career move, NFL experience and the future of his specialty.

Joshua Jacobs, MD, was elected as vice president of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery for a one-year term. Dr. Jacobs is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee reconstruction and replacement. He is the chairperson of the department of orthopedic surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons inducted Jean-Pierre Michaud, MD, as a fellow member. Dr. Michaud is an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon with Pines Health Services and Cary Medical Center, both in Caribou, Maine. 

Orthopedic surgeon Jerry Sisler, MD, died at his home aged 85. Dr. Sisler established his practice in Tula, Okla., in 1963, before he was called to military service. He served as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps, stationed at the 67th Evacuation Hospital in Qui Nhon, Vietnam, and received a Bronze Star for meritorious service.

Portsmouth, N.H.-based Atlantic Orthopedics & Sports Medicine added Matthew Quitkin, MD, to its practice. Dr. Quitkin is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. He focuses on trauma, congenital abnormalities, nerve, tendon and ligament disorders, arthritis, tumors, arthroscopy and reconstructive surgery.

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery named Steve Lee, MD, chief of hand and upper extremity service and Ernest Sink, MD, chief of hip preservation service. In the positions, Drs. Lee and Sink will be responsible for leading the programs and overseeing the treatment of simple and complex conditions.

Will Engasser, MD, joined Golden Valley, Minn.-based Twin Cities Orthopedics as the practice's inaugural foot and ankle fellow. Dr. Engasser comes to TCO after earning his medical degree from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University.

New York City-based NYU Langone is expanding its sports medicine and women's health program with The Center for Women's Sports Health. Pediatric orthopedic surgeon Cordelia Carter, MD, is spearheading the center, which provides orthopedic surgery, sports medicine and rehabilitation services, among others.
