Orthopedic

St. Louis-based orthopedic surgeon Bill Schroer, MD, is using his distillery to make hand sanitizer, which is in high demand due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to NBC affiliate KSDK.

Three things to know:

1. Dr. Schroer is co-medical director at the joint replacement center at SSM Health DePaul Hospital in Bridgeton, Mo., and medical director of orthopedics at SSM Health Network in St. Louis.

2. He is also co-owner of St. Louis Distillery, which he has used to make more than 600 gallons of hand sanitizer.

3. The distillery, which typically produces vodka and rye whiskey, is distributing the hand sanitizer to first responders, skilled nursing facilities and local air traffic controllers.
