An orthopedic surgeon has come out of retirement to oversee operations at the Atlantic City (N.J.) Convention Center, which completed its transition into a field hospital on April 21, The Press of Atlantic City reports.
Four things to know:
1. Richard Scott, MD, former CMO of Hackensack (N.J.) Meridian Health, drove from Wilmington, N.C., to volunteer his services.
2. The facility is intended for non-coronavirus patients, but can pivot to treating those infected with the virus if necessary.
3. Dr. Scott will be responsible for ensuring the safety of staff at the field hospital.
4. The field hospital, one of three such facilities in New Jersey, has the capacity to expand to 3,000 beds if required.
