Orthopedic surgeon Aenor Sawyer, MD, is serving as medical director for a University of California San Francisco project that will test the entire town of Bolinas, Calif., for COVID-19.

The UCSF study aims to develop a better understanding of how the virus spreads.

Bolinas' nearly 2,000 residents will be tested for COVID-19 over a four-day period, as well as the presence of antibodies, which reveals if a person has already been exposed to the virus.

About 5,700 Residents in San Francisco's Mission District will also be tested for the virus, beginning April 25.

Nasal swabs will be used to determine if individuals have contracted COVID-19, with finger-prick blood samples being used to test those already exposed to the virus, which can reveal past exposure, according to researchers.
