Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Thomas Clanton retires

Renowned foot and ankle specialist Thomas Clanton, MD, has retired and appointed a successor.

Here's what you should know:

1. Dr. Clanton, who worked at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., announced his retirement Dec. 31 last year and has completed the transition of his clinical practice to his successor, according to a May 13 news release.

2. He chose orthopedic surgeon C. Thomas Haytmanek, MD, to succeed him..

3. Dr. Clanton joined the Steadman Clinic in 2009, and his career spans 37 years. During that time, he had several academic appointments, served on multiple committees and has been a physician for several sports teams.

4. Dr. Clanton plans to do research and consulting in his retirement. He'll work with the Steadman Philippon Research Institute and offer second opinions to patients virtually.
