Ochsner Lafayette (La.) General Orthopedic Hospital has closed for surgery, Ochsner Health President and CEO Warner Thomas announced Aug. 5, according to NBC affiliate KADN.
Eight things to know:
1. Staff at the hospital are being redeployed to support the COVID-19 surge at other Ochsner facilities in Louisiana.
2. The hospital's emergency room will remain open.
3. As of Aug. 4, about 520 Ochsner employees are quarantining after testing positive for the virus, according to KLYF.
4. Across Ochsner, 890 patients are now hospitalized with COVID-19, up from 514 on July 28 — a 73 percent increase in eight days.
5. Of the 890 COVID-19 hospitalizations, 890 are unvaccinated patients, according to the report.
6. Seven of the hospitalized COVID-19 patients are children. The average age of those patients is 5.7 years.
7. This week, the health system has administered 20,868 COVID-19 tests; 19.75 percent (4,122) were positive.
8. Sixty-two percent of Ochsner staff are fully vaccinated; 67 percent received at least one dose.
