Birmingham, Ala.-based Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center is one of several medical groups that partnered to transform a shopping mall into a healthcare facility, Birmingham Business Journal reported Jan. 18.
The shopping mall, a 50,000-square-foot property in Hoover, Ala., was purchased for $3.9 million in August by entities that include Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center, Birmingham Orthodontics, Skin Wellness Dermatology and AllerVie Health, all with locations in Birmingham.
Real estate buyers partnering with the medical groups on the redevelopment see it as "a chance to reinvest in the community and cater to the existing patient base" while capitalizing on a "market with intense density growth," Stutts Everette, a broker at Randall Commercial Group, which represented the buyers, told the Journal.
"We felt it's a well-known destination, located just off a major highway interchange, that has six points of access, ample parking, and all the existing tenants will remain," Mr. Everette said.
In December, Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center affiliated with U.S. Orthopaedic Partners, a management services organization comprising six practices with 22 locations across Mississippi and Alabama.
