Norton Orthopedic Institute and Norton Leatherman Spine at Norton Healthcare in Louisville, Ky., has been recognized as an Orthopedic Center of Excellence by accreditation company DNV GL Healthcare, wdrb.com reported Feb. 8.
Six details:
1. Hospitals earn Center of Excellence status when they become certified in three of DNV GL's four orthopedic service line programs — spine surgery, hip and knee replacement, shoulder surgery, and foot and ankle surgery.
2. The orthopedic certifications run for three years, supplemented by annual one-day surveys, and highlight excellence in the provision of diagnostic services, surgical services and therapies related to orthopedic care.
3. Most hospitals choose accreditation so they can be certified by CMS to receive federal funds and reimbursements from Medicare and Medicaid programs, according to DNV GL.
4. The conditions of participation requirements outlined by the accreditation body are based on the guidelines, recommendations and practices of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.
5. Cyna Khalily, MD, is the medical director of Norton Orthopedic Institute, which has more than 50 providers, including 30 fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons, according to its website.
6. Norton Healthcare is the 12th hospital in the country to be recognized as an Orthopedic Center of Excellence through DNV GL, according to the report.
