Two surgeons performed the first cases with patient-specific implants made at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery, the hospital said March 8.

The 3D-printed implants were developed at the ProMade Point of Care Center for Complex Orthopedic Solutions at HSS as part of a partnership with devicemaker LimaCorporate, according to a March 8 hospital news release. The 3D design and printing facility was opened in March 2021.

Robert Buly, MD, used an implant for a hip procedure at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. Patrick Connor, MD, used the technology for a shoulder procedure at OrthoCarolina Center in Charlotte, N.C. The hip procedure was completed Jan. 6 and the shoulder case was performed Dec. 16, a LimaCorporate spokesperson said in an email to Becker's.
