Anthony de Bari, MD, a Saginaw, Mich.-based orthopedic surgeon, is volunteering at a Ukrainian field hospital in Lviv to treat those affected by the Russian invasion, mlive.com reported March 24.
Dr. de Bari is working with a disaster relief team of volunteers with Samaritan's Purse, a nonprofit humanitarian organization.
Stationed at the Samaritan's Purse Emergency Field Hospital, he is treating patients, performing surgery and providing assistance to Ukrainians, including taking on patients from local hospitals, according to the report.
The 58-bed field hospital includes an emergency room, an intensive care unit and two operating rooms. Samaritan's Purse is also operating a 24-hour medical clinic at a nearby train station.
Dr. de Bari will return to the U.S. next week after his three-week assignment is complete.
