Smith+Nephew introduces smart glasses to support surgeons in the OR

Orthopedic

Smith+Nephew has partnered with Rods&Cones to offer smart surgery glasses and digital remote assistance to its customers.

The smart glasses allow Smith+Nephew reps to "see" through the eyes of the surgeon or other provider to offer remote support before, during and after surgery, the company said in a July 11 news release. Smith+Nephew initially launched the technology in the U.K.

Smith+Nephew aims to use the technology to scale its remote support capability for customers, enabling connectivity with specialist surgeons during minimally invasive surgery.

"This new partnership will enable our team to deliver the highest possible expertise exactly when our customers and patients need it," Simon Tarry, managing director of Smith+Nephew's UKI/Nordics region, said in the release. "At the same time, I believe enhancing our ability to support our customers remotely serves patient safety and sustainability to great effect."
