Johnson & Johnson orthopedic business sees Q2 sales dip

Johnson & Johnson saw a year-over-year decrease in its orthopedic sales, but totals for the entire first half of 2022 didn't change significantly, according to financial results posted July 19.

Five things to know:

1. Second quarter orthopedic sales worldwide were $2.2 billion. That was a 3.1 percent decrease compared to the same period last year. 

2. Orthopedic sales in the first six months of 2022 were $4.3 billion, which was the same for the first half of 2021.

3. Sales decreases hit all areas of the orthopedic segment in the second quarter. Worldwide hip sales decreased 0.7 percent, knee sales dipped 0.1 percent, trauma sales were down 1.9 percent, and spine and sports sales fell 6.8 percent.

4. Total sales in the first quarter increased 3 percent to $24 billion.

5. The company is maintaining its 2022 full-year guidance halfway through the year.
