Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger has partnered with Excelerate to create savings for patients by using a physician-engagement sourcing model for surgical supplies.

Excelerate, a group purchasing organization, will help Geisinger save on the cost of implants and devices by consolidating supply chain spending and reducing the variation of products used across the health system while taking physician preference into account, according to a July 20 press release.

Excelerate currently services over 100 clients who save 15 to 20 percent on surgical supplies, according to the press release.

"Working with Excelerate will allow us to deliver high-quality care to our patients at a lower cost by taking advantage of their quality-first model for patient-centered decisions regarding the devices and supplies used by our physicians," Michael Suk, MD, chief physician officer and chair of the department of orthopedic surgery, said in the release.

"Our physicians and staff are key drivers of this program, and their support will allow us to make better health easier for our patients through clinical-supply integration."
