Several orthopedic surgeons at SSM Health Dean Medical Group in Madison, Wis. have resigned, and the health system is actively recruiting to fill their spots.
The surgeons gave 90-day notices in September, the Wisconsin State Journal reported Oct. 25.
While The Journal didn't say how many orthopedic surgeons resigned, SSM Health has 10 job postings for orthopedic physicians in Madison listed on its website as of Oct. 27. Positions SSM Health in Madison is recruiting for include sports medicine surgeon, foot and ankle surgeon, hand surgeon and trauma surgeon.
The surgeons resigned because they want to start an independent practice, according to the Journal. SSM spokesperson Kim Sveum told The Journal that the physicians' proposed independent model would "weaken" the health system's "clinically integrated" model of care.
Ms. Sveum didn't immediately respond to Becker's request for comment.
