Do higher-paying states have more orthopedic surgeons per capita?

New Hampshire has the highest number of orthopedic surgeons per capita, according to an August report from Becker's. It also has the fifth highest yearly wage for orthopedic surgeons, at $256,380. 

Twenty states with the most orthopedic surgeons per capita and their yearly salary ranking: 

1. New Hampshire: 5th highest salary, $256,380

2. Wyoming: 43rd highest salary, $221,981 

3. Montana: 40th highest salary, $234,848

4. South Dakota: 25th highest salary, $246,547

5. Alaska: 46th highest salary, $213,227

6. Connecticut: 30th highest salary, $244,016

7. Minnesota: 10th highest salary, $253,043

8. Rhode Island: 15th highest salary, $251,561

9. Idaho: 44th highest salary, $219,643

10. Maine: Highest salary, $267,693

11. Nebraska: 27th highest salary, $264,067

12. District of Columbia: 38th highest salary, $236,253

13. Vermont: 19th highest salary, $250,284 

14. Colorado: 37th highest salary, $237,409

15. Massachusetts: 2nd highest salary, $261,396

16. Maryland: 35th highest salary, $240,746
