Colorado medical center becomes new orthopedic hot spot

Orthopedic

Meeker, Colo.-based Pioneers Medical Center's orthopedic wing has become a go-to destination for care, the Colorado Sun reported Nov. 30.

The Pioneers' Colorado Advanced Orthopedics, Sports Medicine and Spine Center opened in 2020 and has treated over 11,480 patients. Over 60 percent of those patients came from outside the hospital's county, including patients from Germany and Iraq.

Healthcare and social assistance are the second largest source of jobs in Meeker behind coal mining, oil and gas drilling, according to the Sun

The 11,000-square-foot wing was created after Kevin Borchard, MD, began receiving high volumes of referred patients at the medical center. The clinic had a patient volume increase of 65 percent in 2021.

Dr. Borchard then enlisted five additional physicians to the orthopedic practice, leading to a 4,000-square-foot addition over the summer. It now has three operating rooms and a Mako SmartRobotics system.

Becker's named Pioneers one of the top 27 best hospitals for patient experience in the western U.S. earlier this year.
