Orthopedic

Multiple orthopedic surgeons are leaving SSM Health Dean Medical Group in Madison, Wis. Here are five developments to know:

September 2022

Several orthopedic surgeons submitted resignation notices and said they plan to start an independent practice, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

October 2022

SSM Health was seeking 10 orthopedic surgeons at locations in Wisconsin, as of Oct. 27.

November 2022

Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company was chosen as the partner for the orthopedic surgeons' planned independent practice, according to the Wisconsin State Journal

Surgeries and appointments at SSM Health were canceled weeks before 11 orthopedic surgeons resigned, the Chippewa Herald reported Nov. 26. The surgeon group asked for patient continuity agreements, but results of the request weren't released.

SSM Health Dean Medical Group sued two orthopedic surgeons who resigned. The lawsuit, filed Nov. 30m, alleged Jason Sansone, MD, and Brian Keyes, DO, violated their employee agreement by planning their own practice during work and "induced and encouraged" other surgeons to breach their contracts. SSM Health is seeking damages and the return of malpractice insurance.
