Former orthopedic surgeon accepts plea deal in patient misconduct case

Former orthopedic surgeon Shaun Kink, MD, accepted a plea deal to avoid felony sexual assault charges, NPR affiliate WGLT reported Dec. 27.

Dr. Kink took a plea deal and is expected to serve half of a 120-day sentence for misdemeanor solicitation of a sex act, the report said. He was arrested in 2020 and faced two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault involving a person with a physical disability and two counts of sexual assault using force or the threat of force.

The charges stemmed from accusations that Dr. Kink sexually assaulted a patient during an uninvited visit. He allegedly forced the patient to comply in exchange for help with a disability claim.

As part of the plea deal, Dr. Kink won't be able to work in medicine during his 18 months of probation. Dr. Kink previously worked at McLean County Orthopedics in Bloomington, Ill. and was placed on leave after his arrest.
