Arthrex's ACL implant cleared for pediatric use

The FDA cleared Arthrex's ACL reconstruction implant for pediatric use, the devicemaker said Jan. 10.

Arthrex's TightRope implant has pediatric-specific instrumentation and is now the only ACL fixation device cleared for young patients, according to a news release.

Frank Cordasco, MD, and Daniel Green, MD, of New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery helped develop the instruments for pediatric use.

"The expansion of Arthrex's knee ligament portfolio to include pediatric- and young-adolescent-specific instrumentation and implants, along with the new indications cleared by the FDA, represents a substantial improvement on existing treatment options in this high-risk population of athletes," Dr. Cordasco said in the release.
